How To Save Money Series: Vacation Time

Vacations can cost an arm and a leg, especially if one doesn’t consider looking for alternatives to the first options when it comes to dining or transport that pop out during the trip. Luckily, several travelers have found hacks on how to save money during the experience. Below are some of them.

Money Exchange

Seasoned travelers highly recommend that people change money before they go on a trip. They are also cautioned to refrain from changing dollars at foreign airports. Money changers at airports have the worst rates.

Hotels

Experienced travelers note that the only reason people should book a stay in a hotel during a trip to a foreign city is if that’s where they plan to stay the whole time. Hotel resorts are perfect examples of this. Hotel rates are nowhere near cheap. For the most affordable places to stay in, people can check out hostels and used apartments.

Eateries

Restaurants and other similar establishments near tourist destinations are traps in every sense of the word. The prices are jacked up, and the food is mediocre at best. The best food in a city will rarely be found near historical monuments. Ask the locals or do research regarding the restaurant districts. These are the places to be if people want to enjoy the local cuisine.

Keeping credit above the red line

Credit is a significant part of people’s lives nowadays. One’s credit score can have a great impact on many facets of life, like whether they’ll be allowed to take a housing loan or whether or put up their own business. Several[‘loan or whether or put up their own business’ doesn’t make sense.] factors can affect the credit score of a person. Here are some ways to keep credit above the red line.

Avoid maxing out

When a credit card is maxed out, and the credit card owner exceeds the limit, the system automatically notifies credit authorities. If there is no other choice but to exceed the limit, it is highly recommended that the limit should not exceed 30 percent of the card limit.

Avoid late payments

Paying all the bills on time can keep the credit score from going down. Good ways to ensure this is to have reminders set up, or better yet, program auto-payment systems on smartphones wherein payments are automatically deducted from the bank.

Use card only when necessary

As a rule of thumb, credit cards should not be used to buy one’s bare necessities since extra fees are always added. What does this mean? It means that credit cards should only be used to purchase luxury items – only when the cash isn’t enough. And it means that credit cards should only be used during emergencies.
